What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial teeth surgically placed into the jawbone designed to act and function as your normal tooth. Dental implants are composed of three parts: the post, which is surgically inserted into the jaw; the abundant, which connects the post and the restoration; and the restoration, which is the visible crown, bridge, or denture our dentist places on the implant.

Our Pretreatment Options

Prior to beginning your treatment, our dentist will assess both your oral health and the health of jawbone to ensure they are strong enough to support a dental implant. If it is found that they are not healthy enough to ensure a lasting implant, our office will perform pretreatments on your mouth. We can perform a variety of pretreatments in-house to get you ready for your tooth implant. The pretreatments we provide are:

  • Bone graft/sinus lift: A bone graft is performed when the jawbone lacks the density needed to support a dental implant. Our dentist inserts bone materials into the jaw to create a stable foundation for the implant. During a sinus lift, our dentist gently lifts the sinus membrane away from the jaw to add bone materials and enhance density.
  • Gum disease treatments: Treating gum disease is essential before dental implants to provide a healthy foundation. Common treatments include scaling and root planning to clean below the gum line and possible antibiotic therapy to eliminate infection.
  • Extractions: Saving your natural teeth is always our priority. However, if a tooth has too much damage or decay, we will remove it to make space for your new tooth implant.

Our Dental Implant Process

Dental Implant X-Ray

Our dentist will start your dental implant treatment with a comprehensive consultation, where we will discuss your smile goals and assess your oral health to create a personalized treatment plan. We will use a CBCT scanner to take 3D images of your teeth, gums, and jaw for a more accurate diagnosis. If pretreatments are necessary, our dentist will perform them and allow adequate healing time before proceeding with the dental implant. Once your mouth has healed, our dentist will use computer-guided surgery to precisely insert the post into your jaw.

Once your implants have been placed, it's important to allow your mouth to heal from the initial surgery. We'll arrange follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery progress and ensure the implants are healing properly. Generally, it takes about eight to twelve weeks for full recovery at the site. After this healing period, we will have you return to our office for your implant-supported restoration to be placed, bringing back the beauty of your smile.

Our Dental Implant Options

Our office is committed to giving you a long-lasting dental implant that fits your unique needs. We have the experience to offer multiple implant options, ranging from single tooth to full mouth, to ensure we have the correct solution for you. The restorations we provide are:

  • Single Tooth Crowns: If you're getting just one tooth replaced, our office will give you a single-tooth crown attached to a single implant post.
  • Bridges: When you need to replace two or more teeth in a row, our dentist will use a bridge. They'll place dental implants on each side of the gap to support the bridge.
  • Dentures: Our office uses dentures to replace entire arches of missing teeth, covering your entire upper or lower jaw. These dentures are typically supported by six to eight implant posts, ensuring a stable and comfortable fit.
  • Overdentures: Overdentures are removable dentures that are designed to fit over dental implants. They provide stability and retention by attaching securely to implant posts.
  • All-on-4: We offer All-on-4 as an innovative solution to replacing up to a full arch of teeth on only four dental implants. This method promotes faster healing, allowing you to show off your smile even sooner. During your implant examination, our dentist will determine if you qualify for this procedure.
